Russell proposed to me at the American Museum of Natural History in the Hall of Gems. It was a rainy, gloomy afternoon and Russell and I decided to take a trip to the museum. As soon as we arrived I immediately wanted to go to the ocean life exhibit (my favorite exhibit in the museum since I was a child), but Russell kept on trying to take me in the opposite direction and he seemed kind of upset with me that I wasn't following him. He wanted to go by the meteorite exhibit, but I wanted to see the ocean life exhibit first and I had no idea why he was making such a big deal out it. Finally we made our way to the exhibit Russell wanted to go to. When we got there he told me that the meteorites really weren't what he wanted to see. We went passed the meteorites and into the Hall of Gems. I had no idea the museum had a Hall of Gems and was amazed at what I saw. He said "see, isn't this nice." I admitted he was right.
As I was standing in front of one of the displays of gems trying to take a picture, I had my hand out in front of the glass to show the scale of the size of the gems compared to my hand. Russell was standing behind me at the time and right before I took the picture, he reached his arm around me with an engagement ring in hand. I immediately turned around in shock and that's when he said "I love you and want to marry you, and spend the rest of my life with you."
To my surprise Russell had planned the whole thing a couple of days before, right down to the exact spot where he wanted to propose to me. Turns out that was why he was getting so upset with me. He was very anxious about asking me to marry him and I was delaying his plans.
Obviously I said yes.
